When we first made the decision to offer stern drive power, we knew that we were biting off several months of hardcore development to be ready to sell boats for the 2007 boat show season. From different transom angles to tricky exhaust systems, we have gone through several iterations and setups to achieve where we are today. This process included many phone calls and e-mails to both Ilmor and Teague Custom Marine during the design and fabrication phase, and we are hugely grateful to both houses for all of the hard work they have put into the project and the personal commitment shown by everyone involved. At long last, we got her wet last weekend in Phoenix, AZ while we were in town for the Barrett-Jackson auto auction.
With an educated “shot in the dark” prop selection by Bob Teague we went out and turned a handsome mid eighties run on the initial test dip. Five props later, from mild to wild we have sorted out some really good numbers and testing data and have settled on a great all-around prop. In short, we cranked out a 90 mph pass last Sunday with a great feel throughout its entire operating range. You heard it right, 90 mph with only 550 horsepower!
We also found the boat to be very receptive to prop changes which gives us the easy ability to tailor the boat to suit your individual needs with one simple change. While the lab finished 28 pitch (“lab finishing” a prop is a term used to describe a hand-shaped prop that allows more slip and different performance characteristics than a “non-labbed” version) gave us a great all-around performance envelope, the five bladed, lab finished Maximus offered truly incredible holeshot and cruising efficiency.
It is clear that even with all of the extra gear that the Revolution hauls around that others don’t (drop down ramp, huge audio system and batteries, seating for 14, etc…) the infusion build process is paying huge dividends in performance. More importantly than the big mph number, the boat was stable as a rock throughout its envelope and very safe to drive. To call this a triumph of engineering would be a gross understatement. The scratch-built Ron Holder designed hull is truly a work of art, and has secured its place in the performance world in grand fashion today.
The boat is nearly complete, and will be available for delivery by the end of the week for $149,900 including triple axle trailer, external full hydraulic steering, Mercury Racing 28 pitch lab finished prop and all of the other bells and whistles that make the Revolution what it is. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to compress the last several months of development into as short a period as possible. None of this could be possible without the killer crews at both Trident and Teague, and we are honored to have had each play as integral a role as they have in our project.
